The parking system in Vancouver used to be very primitive; we have to decide how many minutes we want to park prior to parking our car and pay the money to this simple parking meter which accepts only coins with no change. The meter starts counting backward the paid minutes as soon as we pay. If the meter had no minute left when the parking officer checked it, we are to be charged. It was simple but inconvenient in two points. One was that we had to decide how many minutes we want in advance. It's difficult to know the exact minute so that we don't pay too much and aren't be charged. The other was that we always had to have some coins in our pocket. We couldn't park without coins even if we had enough bills or a credit card. This "pay by phone" system would be the solution for those problems. All we have to do is calling 604-909-7275 and enter the red location number on the meter and the number of minutes we want. We don't have to come back to the meter any more because we can extend the minutes by phone. We need to set up our account on the first call or vancouver.ca/paybyphone.
