Kanku is the abbreviation of Kansai International Airport. I used it for the first time when I left Osaka for Kushiro last week. It was a really gorgeous airport built on an artificial island in Osaka Bay. According to Wikipedia, it has two open parallel runways with the length of 3,500 meters and 4,000 meters. "Open parallel" means here that the two runways are located apart with enough distance. Talking about the runway length, 4,000 meters at the sea level is long enough for all the commercial airplanes. They can easily take off and land on the runways under most weather conditions. -- Airplanes need less length of runway at the sea level because of air thickness. -- What I want to mention here is that a lot of extra money must have wasted for the excessive features of this airport. More than 10 billion dollars of our tax has been spent saying "This airport is going to be a hub airport in Asia!" and more money are still wasted to keep and run this airport 24/7 every day. It's quite natural that the finance of Osaka or Japan is in danger.
