I sailed the other day with my friend to Coal Harbor, which is located on the north shore of Downtown. It was a five-hour round trip on my boat, though it would take only thirty minutes on foot. I rarely sail there because there is a narrow under the Lions Gate Bridge and I have to read the tide table. It's both dangerous to sail with a rapid current whether it is ebb tide or flood, and I can sail only when the current stops. We call the timing "slack." In spite of the tiresome preparation, the reward is very little; the scenery is not good because of sulfur mountains, and sailing in the harbor is prohibited. However, my friend insisted to go there, and I decided to sail there after a long break. Coal Harbor side of Downtown is more urban than False Creek side with the view of skyscrapers. This yacht is so huge that I sometimes lose my sense of scale. The small black dot on the root of the mast is a man who might be around six feet tall. I guess the size of this yacht around 150 feet. It is often said that the price of a sailboat varies as the length cubed, so it would cost, uh, astronomical.
