The word "hot spot" means a public place where wireless network can be used. When I came back to Japan I was surprised to see a lot of hot spots in Tokyo. If you turn on a notebook PC with wireless network in a cafe or a restaurant, you can possiblely connect to the hot spots and use the Internet. Most hot spots are pay spots and require the security password, but there aren't a few free spots. Although the free hot spots have security problems, we can avoid them by using a adequate firewall system. I have found some comfortable hot spots in Tokyo. It is as if I had some offices here and there in Tokyo. It's really comfortable and I can do my work everywhere. Indeed I'm writing and uploading this blog in one of my secret cafes. I hope a lot of hot spots are appearing in Vancouver.
