We can see a lot of benches in Stanley Park. Do you know how they are placed and maintained? They are kept by donations from Vancouver citizens. If you pay some money to the park -- I hear it costs about $2,500 -- the park will place a new bench with a plate on it,on which you can place any message you like. For example, when Bob dies, his wife donates to the park and places a new bench with words like "IN LOVING MEMORY OF BOB". And the wife can often visit the bench and recall her husband. This,I think, is a very nice system to help in the upkeep of parks . A few days ago, I read the japanese news on the Internet, and found an article which says that one park in Tokyo started this system too.
